May 31st 2017 Celebration time!

Woo hoo!
Party time!

Today we celebrated our learners who have made accelerated progress in Reading, Writing and Mathematics.
The whole school came together to cheer one another's success in making accelerated progress in these learning areas.

It was fantastic to see so many proud and supportive faces, and so many high fives!

The teachers had loads of fun letting off party poppers and blowing party horns!

May 31st 2017

The last day of Kiwi sport.

We have really enjoyed the challenge of learning how to use our bodies to become more co-ordinated, agile and flexible.

Just as importantly we have learnt to be more resilient, work collaboratively with others, follow instructions and show good sportsmanship.

The race is on!

Wk 3 Term 2 2017

Highlights of Week 3

We started the week with a visit from 'Football for children', learning a few new soccer skills.

Learning to Listen!

For some of us, listening can be a real challenge!
To help us learn how to listen (and give instructions), we used an old fashioned 'barrier game' to help us practise these important skills (as well as learning a little maths!).

How it works: without looking at each others board one person gives an instruction and the other follows this instruction: such as "put the yellow block in the top Left hand quarter". At the end of their turn both participants compare their boards to see if they match. There was some good listening going on!

Learning through our interests.

Toby researched, analysed, summarised, collated and created an information report about Pokemon. He presented his research project to the class, explaining how Pokemon were classified into different groups and how each Pokemon had different strengths.
He spoke clearly and knew his topic well, he was able to answer questions from his audience and later explained that there was a lot of tactical thinking involved when playing Pokemon battles.

That's a wrap!

Congratulations to everyone for facing their individual challenges head on and giving it a go!

The last day of swimming was loads of fun, and everyone has made progress towards their individual water safety goals. Certificates will come home next week.
Well done everyone!

Kiwi sport

We had loads of fun in the hall learning to fetch, catch and throw, hop and jump, and steer a ball with a hockey stick.

The skills and strategies being developed here are transferrable into a number of sports and learning areas, thus supporting the holistic development of children (academic, social, emotional, and physical).

For example: eye-hand coordination, gross motor skills, co-operative and collaborative social skills, emotional regulation, critical thinking, as well as a number of dispositions and key competencies such as resilience, patience, participation and relating to others.

May 16th 2017

Week 3 15th - 19th of May
  • This Thursday is our last day for swimming (water safety).
  • On Friday our learning group Pikorua is presenting, so please feel free to join us from 9.05am in the Hall.
  • The school Disco is on again this Friday starting at 5pm for the juniors.

It's getting cooler as winter creeps up upon us.
If your child would like to bring a pair of warm slippers or socks to wear inside the classroom they are more than welcome to do so.

As with every winter there are the usual coughs, colds and runny noses so I would really appreciate it if you could donate either a box of tissues or some hand sanitiser for the classroom, thank you.

Thank you for all of your support this term, we have lots of learning happening at the moment so keep checking the blog for updates!
